VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic announced

VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic announced

It’s my distinct privilege
to formally announce that the University of
Massachusetts Medical School has reached an
agreement with the VA to construct a brand-new,
state of the art VA community-based outpatient
clinic right here on our campus. [APPLAUSE] UMass Medical School
feels entirely proud to partner with the
VA to create a modern, state of the art, and
innovative center of care for veterans in
our region who have given so much to our nation. This is literally going to
change life for the better. It is going to revolutionize
care for our veterans here in Worcester
and Worcester County. This is an example of
our government working to better the lives of
people here in Massachusetts and take care of
our veterans who we owe a tremendous debt of
gratitude that can never fully be repaid. When any one of us thinks about
our own personal well-being, mental and physical,
the things that you are putting into this
outpatient clinic are essential. But if you do not have access
to those essential tools and to the treatments
and to the diagnoses, it’s sometimes, for these
veterans, the difference between access or none
at all because if it’s too hard to get to or
too long of a day, then the outcome could
be I’m not going, and not going means that we are
not serving the individual who has served us. This announcement
this morning is really the realization of a
many years’ long effort to expand services in
this part of Massachusetts but really all across,
not just New England, but across the country expanding
access, increasing services. I particularly applaud
this partnership under the leadership of
Chancellor Collins, Dean Flotte, Director Collins, and
the Veterans Administration that will give the veterans
of central Massachusetts increased care locally,
but it will also impact generations of
physicians and nurses to come through unique
experiences in clinical care, in education, and in outcomes
in health-disparities research.
