  4. Aaaah I have the same issue with my husband. In Mexico (where I'm from) we use the sheet set and one or more blankets and I love every layer hahaha But here in the UK my husband doesn't understand it and he only uses the duvet but we are constantly arguing about who stole the whole thing during the night lol well, that wouldn't happen if we had more layers!!!! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  5. Since I remember existing, I sleep with the bottom and top sheet. It's so weird knowing that some people don't… (I'm Portuguese btw)

  8. Sheets: in California Iโ€™ve always used a top sheet or a removable washable duvet cover. However, my son (now 19) has refused to use a top sheet his entire life! The top sheet is considered to be more hygienic but it also may be related to economic status. I notice, historically, the higher economic status, the more a top sheet is used. Edit: I also notice within top sheet users that women are more likely to use them while men…not so much. Lol!

  10. I'm Canadian and I kinda have the sheet thing it's on the bottom though after the fitted sheet and then on-top of the comforter you need a quilt cause it's so bloody cold!!

  11. Shopping for mattress is never easy. You thought you got the right one and when you went home, it felt different. haha.
The top sheet is an American/Canadian thing. We've never used them until one of our American guests mentioned it.
I think the goal is that you wash the top sheet but not the duvet all the time as she mentioned .

  12. In Italy there is NO WAY that you haven't the top sheet. Top sheet is essential! How can't imagine sleep without it xD

  14. In most West European countries (I live in The Netherlands) we do use top sheets. I think with modern thermal material you can do without, but if you have the (old fashion) 100% pure wool blankets, you do need top sheets. Without a top sheet the wool irritates your skin. Maybe countries like Japan and Korea are not familiair with top sheets because traditionally they use duvets. But the duvet has a cover, which in fact is like a top sheet.

  15. OMG, my bf and I had the same experience. I'm Indian and we don't use the top sheet, so when we started living together and he explained that you have to sleep underneath a top sheet I was resistant until explained why and I was like, can't argue that, I hate laundering the blankets so I relented. But i always win every food battle!

  16. I live in Australia and we have the sheet sets fitted sheet top sheet pillow cases otherwise the blankets can irrate ๐Ÿ˜œ your skin ๐Ÿ˜Š

  17. Hi you two! I laughed when the topic of bedsheets came up. After watching Kdramas for a while now, I often wondered about 2 things with regards to how Koreans actually sleep. First, where is the matching top sheet? ( right on Sarah! ). Secondly, do they really sleep with the lights on? ….haha. Having a top sheet makes stripping the bed much easier. Also, the quality of the sheets makes a huge difference. Costco's Kirkland sheets are the best!! Great video! Louise

  18. American. I hate top sheets. They bunch up and I get stuck in them. The only time I ever use top sheets is during the summer as my blanket. Maybe I just roll around too much in my sleep.

  19. I grew up in the UK where top sheets aren't a thing either.
At least I never had one and I don't know of anyone else who had one either.

  21. I have a Filipino boyfriend in Hawaii and not only did he not know about a top sheet, but he didnโ€™t even know that people slept UNDERNEATH the comforter. Until I told him he always just slept on top on the comforter with another blanket. I was like wtf??

  22. Hello from USA, Arizona (four corners), Navajo Reservation. I grew up with the fitted, flat sheet and comforter. I mean they sell the comforter set without the flat sheet, but I still manage to buy the flat sheet lol. It's a must for me! Plus my mom used to work in a hotel.

  23. Bouyaaa Sarah! Thatโ€™s correct. Iโ€™m Asian and in Canada [Toronto], we too have a sheet between the blanket. Also the sheet make you feel cooler as opposed to have a blanket right on top. If you travel and stay in hotels, you would want to slide in under the sheet as you donโ€™t know if the blankets are washed lol… and in some cases hotel blankets are itchy the moment your skin comes in contact.

  24. i am chinese but live and grew up in canada. when i buy the set, it always comes with a flat sheet. but i never use it. I find it super annoying when the flat sheet is tucked into the bed and you're like mummified into your bed.

most blankets/duvets have a thin duvet cover that you can wash instead of washing the whole duvet.

  25. I found the sheet discussion very interesting and funny:) I'm from Hawaii born and raised. We never used 'sheet sets' till my mom married my step father from the mainland. an adult I can take or leave the top sheet but now I learned from you what top sheet is for! I'm lazy and never used it as an adult but now I might consider because it is a hassle to wash blankets. It is pretty hot and humid here eight months out of twelve so 'less is more'!

  27. So I grew up sleeping with a sheet between me and the blanket, but during the summer its so hot for me I usually only sleep with the sheet because I dont want to keep my aircon running all night… But during the winter I always do because its such a pain to wash blankets.. Actually the only sheet I have to use here in japan is from a sheet set I got in the US during winter break. My original bed set only came with a fitted sheet and then the duvet

  31. I'm Vietnamese and growing up in Melbourne Aus and I never sleep with a top sheet. When I slept over at my bf's house (he is half Asian & half white – 3rd generation in Aus) and he has 2 sheet… and i was wondering the same thing… I just thought to myself …properly he is OCD… but now you guys brought this topic up. Interesting culture differences ๐Ÿ™‚

  32. Okay…? First I am korean, but i had never used top sheet. Also I went to canada during Jul-Aug for exchange student, but i couldn't understand why there was two sheets on my bed until now. It's little late time to understand, but thanks for new culture idea!!

  34. I am team Kyuho haha ๐Ÿ™‚ I'm from the Netherlands and i don't use a top sheet! I haven't seen any people i know use a top sheet either. We (like some other Europeans have commented) have a "duvet case", just like a pillow has a "pillow case". However, i often feel cold when i go to sleep, so i use a fleece blanket as a "top sheet". I think it's a very funny difference! ๐Ÿ™‚

  35. In Spain is common the top sheet, it is basic. We have the fitted sheet, top sheet, blanquet and the bed cover ๐Ÿคช But in my case, once I tried the Scandinavian style I kept it because it is more practical๐Ÿ˜Š

  37. Do you not use a duvet cover? That pretty much solves the problem of the comforter getting sweaty and dirty, since you can just take that off and wash it without having to use a top sheet. I find top sheets annoying, personally.

  38. I'm Canadian and my partner is Nigerian, and we had that same culture shock with our bedding. That top sheet is so handy because now we don't need to wash the whole comforter all the time.

  39. Covering up with a sheet just feels so smooth and cool as opposed to a fuzzy blanket right on top of you. In the summer, I usually just cover up with my top sheet, so comfortable ๐Ÿ™‚

  40. I'm from the USA and I NEED a flat sheet! I get cold without it, and I only have to wash my duvet cover once a month!

  41. When you said "Pivot," I was like "ROSS!" Then, you showed the clip. haha I love that one and the one where he tried to play bagpipes for Monica and Chandler's wedding.

  42. Rather than Korea vs. Canada, I think it's something much broader like a Western vs. Eastern thing. Like I don't see anyone from most East Asian cultures like Taiwan, China, Korea, Japan use those top sheets. Meanwhile in Europe, North America and Europe they do. It might have stemmed from Greek or Roman cultures or something like that that didn't really extend to the East Asia civilization back then.

Meanwhile happy to see Beemo is thrilled with your new mattress, that little cute bundle of fur!

Also, was Kyuho's friend competing for you romantically with Kyuho at that time when he said those things about Kyuho? XD

And lastly… DID KYUHO SAY HIS FRIEND WAS 16 (by accident)???!!! FBI: OPEN UP

  43. It may just be me/my family but for us, the top sheet is "just another sheet" aka another sheet of the same pattern to use when the fitted sheet is dirty/in the wash. I'm from a tropical country where we change the sheets once a week (or every so often) and it's often warm enough to not need blankets all the time, so I guess we never needed the top sheet as Sarah described it.

Oh, and that "your lips" comment – totally melted my heart. <3

  46. I am from Kazakhstan and we always use top sheets here. That was also one of the biggest cultural shocks for me in Korea for the first few months. I ended up asking my Kazakh friend to bring a bed sheetsโ€™ set from Kazakhstan eventually ๐Ÿ˜…

  47. Your Canadian way is the Italian way too and I hate that top sheet. It gets wrapped around me while I sleep so it's annoying. While I love Italy, the food, the people…. I hate that sheet…. In my own country we don't use a blanket so we don't need that sheet. We use a duvet and a duvet cover (which is the "protective barrier"). So I'm in Kyuho's camp.

  48. Oh heck yeah…MUST have both fitted and top sheet. I would hate just sleeping under a blanket. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ

  49. My mum is Chinese and my dad is Australian. They live separately and my mum doesnโ€™t use a top sheet while my dad does. Maybe itโ€™s a western thing to use top sheets?

  50. Iโ€™m Canadian and my mum and I used to always argue about the flat sheet. She insisted on it, while I always hated it bc it would get loose to not lay right. So when I moved to Korea I felt such a freedom from not having it anymore. Iโ€™m back in Canada now, and for some reason I put on the flat sheet bc itโ€™s a part of the set, but I have to get pretty patterns to convince myself to use it, haha.

  51. The top sheet is to use instead of a blanket in the summer. Before air conditioning. So the sleeper could have a layer over them that didnโ€™t make them hot. The sheet and blanket never are lined up right when you wake up if you use them together. Itโ€™s just in the way and harder to make the bed.

  52. I live in California in a Mexican household, so Iโ€™m not sure if itโ€™s for everyone. For my family specifically, we have a sheet set and we sleep on top of all of the sheets and we have those think blankets that have an animal printed on it, to cover.

  53. Iโ€™m Canadian but grew up never using a flat sheet, but washed the duvet cover every week instead. I didnโ€™t know what to do with the flat sheet at first.

  54. There was no blanket in Korean culture but Koreans have Ebul ์ด๋ถˆ or quilt. Koreans would happily wash this quilt or wear pajamas to cover their bodies.

  55. I grew up in England and never used a top sheet. Always a bottom sheet and duvet cover.
Then I moved to the states and all the sets included them. Now I have a pile of extra sheets I donโ€™t use haha

  56. I grew up with sheet sets and i have sheet sets for when my mum or other visitors come to stay but personally i prefer just a bottom fitted sheet and a doona with a doona cover that comes off to wash. Maybe its because im a hot sleeper or im just really bad at making beds ๐Ÿ˜€. You both looked very nice dressed up.for the wedding. X

  57. Here in Portugal we have top sheets but mostly for summer and if you don't use a duvet but blankets. If you use a duvet you use a duvet cover which is like a pillowcase but bigger. Most houses use top sheets here.

  59. I only use the top sheet in summer in winter Im like your husband give me just my blanket. I'm from the US. I was brought up that way.

  60. I always thought the top sheet was a bonus sheet, so you can use it when fitted sheet wasn't available lol I grew up not using a top sheet and still don't. My first encounter with top sheets I slept on top of it too ๐Ÿคฃ

  61. We protect our blankets/duvets in Romania too, usually with a sheet made for it. Our bed sheets usually contain a bed sheet (not fitted); 2 pillow covers; blanket/duvet sheet.

  62. I"m from France… In my family, we used to have a fitted sheet on the bottom and a top sheet between the body and the blanket but now we use a duvet with a cover so no more to sheet and blanket!

  63. Weird…I asked my daughter "Why are you sleeping on blanet"…then realised her fitted sheet tore. She had weird rash on skin..I think it of that blanket.I also gate the touch of any fleecy thing on skin.I sleep between cotton sheet& comforter &throw blankets over comforter&fold blankets every morning& place at footend or on bench or chair in room.

  64. I binged watched you because I haven't watch for a few weeks blame "Kane&Pia"Diaries of instagram husband as well as Brendan Fallus&Hannah Broftman…haven't watched them in years…&loads of "immigrating to New Zealand" vlogs….thank you for…relax me so much

  65. Never heard about top sheet. Nor in Lithuania nor when I started live in England. To me is just makes no sence why you need it. You wash sheets every weekend anyways. Why need an extra one.

  66. In Sweden (and probably many parts of Europe) we use, what we call, a 'pรฅslakan'. It's a sheet that encases the blanket/duvet, just like your pillow case.

  67. I never heard of it before and I think that applies to a lot of fellow Indonesian.
We only use bottom sheet to separate us from directly contacting bed and that's it

  68. France it's the same as Korea we use the top sheet only in summer and spring but we have a distinction of both countries. We use a sheet on our blanket.

  69. I'm Asian American and I personally can't stand the top sheet. It's a pain in the butt when I make the bed.
I just use a Duvet cover.

  70. Iโ€™m from Japan. I think it is common to use top sheets in Japan. But maybe younger generations are not using it๐Ÿค”

  71. Whenever I saw your videos your bed set-up always confused me, like why is there no cover for your doona??? Neither Denmark or Australia use this weird ~in-between sheet~ and I have never heard about this existing, even from my aunt who lives in America.
the normal setup for everyone I know is:
the mattress > maybe a mattress protector > bed sheet (flat or fitted)> doona with a doona cover Done!

  74. Iโ€™m Canadian and grew up always using a top sheet. I always found them pointless and they always end up pushed to the bottom of the bed over the night but my mom insists we have them lol.
