BIG Campaign – Income Inequality

BIG Campaign – Income Inequality

I believe that the current system of Ontario
Works is really insufficient and does not provide dignity and it destroys the self-confidence
of those who have the misfortune of ending up on Ontario Works. I really believe having raised my son for
30 years on ODSP, a very, very strict limited budget that didn’t change beyond $900 a month,
that if it hadn’t have been for my parents, who were kind enough to pick up the slack,
that life would have been considerably different. Anyone who’s on welfare or Ontario Works is
really a lot of shame and they feel at the bottom of the rung. Any time I’ve applied for assistance or help
I’ve either been too rich, too poor, too young, too old…take a pick, any aspect of life
I’ve just never fit in. It’s important that we support the Basic Income
Guarantee because it’s our biggest and probably best chance to solve the problem of inequity
in income and therefore solve the problems in society not just for our generation, but
for generations to come.
