About Humanity Road


Humanity Road is a global volunteer
organization founded in 2010 our mission is to provide the public
with information on how to survive sustain and reunite a disaster we use the internet and mobile device
technology to deliver disaster preparedness and
response information to the public we focus on bridging the communications
gap between the public impacted by a disaster and those who are providing
them aid we train spontaneous volunteers on using
emerging internet and mobile communication tools and techniques to
research and verify information

communicating with those impacted the size and a nature of disasters has
changed and so has the method that the public use
s to communicate with each other during these events. when voice lines are overloaded text messaging and social media are
successfully being used as a communications tool during a disaster Humanity Road volunteers monitor and search social media including face
book and twitter to identify and locate those impacted who need help and share critical recovery information
from local regional and national officials responding to the event Humanity Road volunteers focus on
immediate needs of both people an
d animals impacted by a disaster We share information about first-aid and
hospitals food water, shelter and reuniting with loved ones we provide the
public will helpful information on how to communicate with each other
during disasters such as using mobile devices and text
messaging volunteers use social media and crowd
sourcing tools they use these to communicate with the mobile public in a
manner that simplifies their ability to gain access to aid information in Japan for example we made a
difference for an aid agency that needed radiation detectors in Pakistan a doctor was able to locate a supply of
critically needed snake antivenum after devastating floods in Haiti it very sick child received life-saving
air transport because we were able to connect her
medical facility in Alabama a family was reconnected with each other after a deadly tornado outbreak caused
voice networks to become congested in Ghana the first citizens emergency
response team in that country received helpful equipment and training these are just a few of the personal
stories of lives that are touched each day by volunteers of Humanity Road everyday we reach out and touch the lives of those impacted by tornadoes, earthquakes floods and man-made disasters around the
world Volunteers from the United States
Germany Brazil Haiti Ghana India Samoa Canada and a growing list of other
countries work together to help people around the world and next door we also communicate with universities
and organizations to test emerging disaster response tools such as
Tweak the Tweet from Epic Colorado University and tweettracker from Arizona State University volunteers also provided critical
support and training for crisis mapping Ushahidi for example Our approach and accuracy has added
value to traditional disaster response operations by providing useful and
actionable information We have collaborated with emergency
operation centers during active disasters in the U.S.
